About EngAGEment

GIA partners with regional associations of grantmakers, affinity groups, and other national organizations to introduce grantmakers to the growing needs of our aging population and how philanthropy will be affected. By engaging in education and awareness activities, partner organizations expand funder interest in the crosscutting issues associated with aging.

Organizations submitted proposals in response to an RFP initiated by GIA. Funds from a grant established by The Atlantic Philanthropies are re-granted by GIA to the selected organizations. A dollar for dollar match is also required before the EngAGEment grant is awarded.

EngAGEment Materials
Through the EngAGEment Initiative, GIA has developed a series of six informative Issue Briefs to introduce funders to the many issues surrounding aging. They are designed to give an overview of the subject, statistics, links, and funding opportunities. Together, these briefs form a great resource for funders interested in finding out more about aging as a funding area.

EngAGEment Grant Recipients

Older adults are increasingly relevant because the ‘graying’ of America promises dramatic change in every aspect of American life and across the spectrum of funding interests including the arts, environment, health, neighborhoods, social services, education, or children, youth and families. Thank you to our past and current partners for their dedication in promoting aging as a funding option for grantmakers. GIA appreciates your efforts!

Partners applied for one-year grants (no match required) to sustain the momentum of their work to promote funding in aging.

“Regardless of interests – the arts, health, education, social services, children and youth, families, neighborhoods or the environment – most funders whether they realize it or not support programs that benefit older adults directly or indirectly,” said Michelle Davis, executive director of Nonprofit Connect.
