EngAGEment Issue Briefs

Through the EngAGEment Initiative, GIA has developed a series of Issue Briefs to introduce funders to the many issues surrounding aging. The briefs are designed to give an overview of the subject, statistics, charts, links and funding opportunities.

The first issue brief, "Turning Silver to Gold", focuses on aging demographics in the United States. Issue Brief number two, "Funding Across the Lifespan", explores opportunities for funders to become involved with aging, no matter what their current funding priorities are. The third Issue Brief, "Linking Generations for a Stronger Community", is about intergenerational programming. "Home for Life" is the title for the fourth issue and it covers programs involving aging in place. Number five in the series, "Promoting Health, Strengthening Communities", is based on GIA's Regional Issues Forum in Atlanta and provides ideas for funding health-related projects. The most recent publication is "Quality of Life Through End-of-Life Care" and is full of suggestions to support end of life and palliative care efforts. Together, these briefs form a great resource for funders interested in aging.

Enhance Grantmaking by Involving Older Adults -This is a chart from Issue Brief number two that offers options for grantmakers funding Children Youth and Families, Education, Health, Arts and Culture, Neighborhoods, and/or the Environment to incorporate aging into current funding priorities. The chart also includes selected resources where grantmakers can go for additional details to make aging a cross-cutting funding opportunity to consider.
