The Effect on Older Adults & What Funders Should Know

When faced with how to best to respond to the needs of older adults in a disaster, funders need to combine their knowledge of all three components of this work: knowledge about philanthropy, older adults, and disasters. This Conversations with GIA webinar comprised of a panel discussion with the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, The Patterson Foundation and the Florida Philanthropic Network. The panelists presented facts and statistics on the effects of the hurricane season on older adults, how to best allocate the resources you have as a funder to benefit older adults and what the philanthropic community is doing to support the needs of older adults. The Disaster Philanthropy Playbook strategy on older adults helped inform this discussion. Presenters: Anna R. Hurt, Center for Disaster Philanthropy; Debra Jacobs, The Patterson Foundation; Robert McFalls, Florida Philanthropic Network. Moderator: John Feather Ph.D., CEO, Grantmakers in Aging. Sponsored by The John A. Hartford Foundation and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. Webinar date: November 13, 2017. View the recording below or on the GIA YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/7xlDIKqaGQ8.
