posted Mon, Sep 10, 2012   by Grantmakers for Children, Youth and Families website

GIA CEO John Feather joins a panel assembled by Grantmakers for Children, Youth and Families on Thursday, September 13, 2012 for a briefing to discuss the need for more support, resources and services for "grandfamilies." The briefing will be held on Capitol Hill and is sponsored by the Office of U.S. Senator Al Franken of Minnesota. Nearly 5 million children under age 18 live in grandparent-headed households. Placing the needs of these children at the forefront, grandparents often risk neglecting their own the health and well-being. They face increased financial, health, housing, education and work challenges that can derail their retirement plans. Similarly, more than half of adult children with developmental disabilities live with their parents.

Help us pursue our mission and strengthen grantmaking to support the needs and potential of older people.
