GIA Board chair Langston on Medicare's Annual Wellness Visit

posted Thu, Feb 28, 2013

In 2011, Medicare rolled out a new benefit, an annual wellness visit that’s free to beneficiaries as part of the Affordable Care Act. The good news is that 3.2 million Medicare beneficiaries took advantage of this in 2012, up from 2.3 million in 2011; the bad news is, that represents just 9% of all Medicare patients. “It’s disappointing,” said Christopher Langston, program director of the John A. Hartford Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the health of older Americans, adding that more consumers need to know about this “well-designed benefit.”
