As with most disasters, older people are among the most seriously affected by the California wildfires and Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Thousands of older people are displaced, struggling to meet their basic and health needs, and disconnected from their formal and informal social networks. Trusted community-based organizations are particularly effective in identifying and assisting older community members in need.

For those who wish to help, GIA recommends donating to disaster relief funds stewarded by our members, USAging, Meals on Wheels America, and Leading Age. Funds will support local response and recovery efforts.

Donate to Leading Age
LeadingAge donations will go directly to member organizations and their staff to cover a range of needs specific to their emergency.

 Donate to Meals on Wheels

Donate to Meals on Wheels to support local meal delivery to older people in affected communities.

Donate to USAging Disaster Relief Fund

Donate to USAging Disaster Relief Fund to support Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) responding to the needs of older people in affected communities.  100% of donations will go to local AAAs to assist with needs including food and water, replacing home essentials and furniture, repairing homes, and providing rental assistance to those who were injured or lost income.
